Where does ChatGPT get prices when it compares stores?

Often from price-comparison sites, deal trackers, deal articles and marketplace listings, not the retailer's own product page. Some of that data is weeks old.

When Core dna asked ChatGPT where products were cheapest, the answers cited price-comparison sites such as staticICE, BuyWisely, PriceRoo and Getprice, deal trackers such as Click Frenzy, and news deal articles. One answer used comparison data it said was last updated four weeks earlier. These sources lag behind the retailer's own site, especially when a sale starts or ends.

Asked about a single retailer's product page, ChatGPT is far more accurate: it gave the right price for 43 of 51 retailers in our September test. The problem shows up when it has to compare stores. See our September findings for why ChatGPT shows the wrong price for products.
